Personal Giving Stories

Andersen_lg.jpg“Over the years, we have always appreciated the low-key approach of university fundraising. We were never pushed or pressured to give, but were simply engaged and given opportunities to support programs and initiatives in which we had an interest.  As our capability and interests grew, we needed to learn more about gift planning strategies.  As we did, the Office of Gift Planning and Trust Services at the U of I Foundation assisted us with a gift plan that not only has financial benefits now, but also supports the various programs we care deeply about after we are gone.

For us, this involved establishing an endowment in 1998 and a Charitable Remainder Trust (CRT) in 2007. Since then, we have contributed to both periodically, making additions when it made financial sense to us. The CRT is particularly interesting because it results in immediate tax savings and increases our retirement income.

The gift planning staff has always provided straightforward and unbiased information to help us make the best decision given our circumstances. The staff is very knowledgeable and easy to work with. We strongly encourage anyone considering an estate gift, or any sort of gift involving financial considerations, to contact them for assistance. You will be glad you did, just as we are.”
